Peppermint Rods

These peppermint enhanced, chocolate covered pretzel rods are very easy to make and a hit with crowds. They are perfect for taking to cookie parties or bake sales where you might have to make dozens of treats.

You can dress them up with anything if peppermint isn't your thing. Shredded coconut works well, as well as sprinkles (any color that is appropriate for the occasion!). The treats are also incredibly kid-friendly. Children especially enjoy smashing the peppermints and rolling the rods in the crushed candy.

Ingredients:

40 salted pretzel rods
1 medium bag chocolate chips
1 bag peppermint candies (round) or candy canes

Directions:

Unwrap the peppermint candies and place them in a gallon sized plastic bag. Push all the air out of the bag, seal it, and place it in a second plastic bag. Using a rolling pin, the bottom of a glass, or a mallet, repeatedly smash the candies. Pour the crushed peppermints onto a cutting board or a level plate.

Pour the chocolate chips into a microwave safe bowl. Microwave on high, pulling it out to stir at 30 second intervals until the chocolate is melted.

Dip each pretzel rod into the chocolate, making sure to get a good coating on. Leave space at the end to grasp the rod with when eating.

While the chocolate is still sticky, roll each rod in the crushed peppermint and set to cool on a non stick baking mat, foil, or parchment paper lined cookie sheet.

Stick the pretzel rods in the fridge for 5-10 minutes to harden up.

Enjoy!
