Surprise Chocolate Crunch

by Gabrielle Page, age 11
(Aukland, New Zealand)

This recipe is fun to make especially if you experiment and put other things in it like candy canes, marshmallows or even mint leaves.

Ingredients:

150 grams butter
2 cups flour
1 1/2 cups white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
2 tablespoons cocoa
1/2 cup milk
1 tablespoon golden syrup
3 tablespoons brown sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 cup of cornflakes(cereal)
1/2 cup of rice bubbles(cereal)
1/2 cup chopped nuts(optional)
sprinkles of any kind(optional)
chopped up candy bars

Method:

Preheat oven to 180C (350F) degrees. Melt 50 grams of the butter in a pot. When butter is melted add the cocoa and milk.

In a bowl sift flour and baking powder and pour the cocoa and butter mixture in the flour mix. Mix with a wooden spoon. Add vanilla essence.

Melt the rest of the butter down to a liquid and add to mixture and add the white sugar. Add brown sugar and golden syrup and stir mixture well. Add the candy bars(chopped)and corn flakes, nuts, sprinkles and anything else you think will be good in the mixture.

Line a tray with baking paper and spread out evenly. Put it in the oven and check every 5-10 minutes.
